We stayed on the ship while others landed in our tenders at Petropavlovsk, Russia and some decided to walk the 2 miles to the adjacent town, Zazerkalny. Most enjoyed the Sunday flea market and the friendly Russians, few of which spoke English. It had snowed recently and they dealt with a lot of mud on our journey. The great 10,000’ volcano that looms above the town has two active vents sending steam in both directions. The temperature was just above freezing, and the Russians were out on their beach as though it were in the 80s!
